Rockit by Herbie Hancock, Arr. by Tyler Gilmore | 9th+lincoln Live 2007 This big band arrangement was written for the Harvard Westlake, Hollywood CA, jazz program. It originally featured Turntable-ist solo and guitar solo. The 9th+lincoln version features Trombones 1 and 2.
It's Mostly Residual by Cuong Vu, Arr. by Tyler Gilmore | 9th+lincoln Live 2006 This arrangement features a lot of directed group improvisation. Various sections have descriptions of what is to be played, but its not written out. This contrasts with the fully composed sections. The clip features the climax of the peice, and has a bit of the improv stuff but is mostly written. All registers are medium to easy, and the phrasing is not complex. This peice would be a good introduction to group improvisation and the use of rock, for a young band.
